Ohope

'O' means 'a place of' and 'hope' is the body of an army in Maori. Ohope Beach offers the walker, bather, surfer and fisherman a fantastic 11 kilometres of uninterrupted white sand beach and plenty of sunshine. The water is great for swimming and surfing and practising other water sports as it is one of the safest in the country.

Ohope is situated in an absolutely unique location, with a stunning white beach on the one side and Ohiwa harbour on the other. In the summer the backdrop of Pohutukawa trees is absolutely stunning. Ohope enjoys the warmest climate and highest sunshine hours in the country.

The town itself is not big, but there are some great places to go when you feel like eating out or stopping for a coffee.Vanilla Restaurant and Surf Side Caf, both on Pohutukawa Avenue for instance are very nice. Bougainvillea Caf down Bluett Road just passed the Charter Club in set in a beautiful Garden Centre.

Pier 5 Restaurant & Bar is located on the Wharf across the road from Surf and Sand and has beautiful views of the Ohiwa Harbour. You won't find oysters any fresher than those found at the Ohiwa Oyster Farm just  200 metres beyond Harbour Road towards Opotiki. If you want a bit more to choose from, Whakatane  is only 10 minutes away.
